On the slopes of the ski resort there is leftover snow but the preparations for the summer season are already running. We are doing the maintenance of the chairlift, reconstruction of the tracks in the bike park and we prepare the rental and the store. These are three main tasks to be done before the beginning of the operation. In the first two weeks in June the resort will be open just at the weekends, afterwards there will be daily operation until the middle of September and then only at the weekends until the end of October. The main event of the summer season will be the traditional downhill race IXS European Downhill Cup. Other events are for instance a race of the Enduro series and The Day with CHKO Šumava. All events can be found here. Apart from the bike park and the lookout tower especially the youngest visitors will have the opportunity to use the footpath In the feet of the hare and children´s ski playground with summer tubing and mini bike park.
At the beginning of the holidays the most significant race of the Czech downhill community is coming back to Špičák – iXS European Downhill Cup. In Šumava there will meet European downhill top riders from July 1 to July 3. The race takes place on the track Struggle, which is marked by the black colour. Its length is 1750m. The riders from 26 countries will fight in the final round on Sunday at 12:30 for the best positions. The total prize money of the race will be 5.945€.
The summer season at the resort of Špičák began on 4 June. Since 11 June the chairlift and the bikepark are open every day from 9 am to 5 pm. What is more, on Friday and Saturday we add one more hour, which means that the last run up of the chairlift is at 6 pm.
The look-out tower on the peak has been open since June 11 as well. For children there has been prepared a footpath “In the Footsteps of the Hare“, which brings you to Devils Lake. After that, this 3 km long, funny and educational footpath brings you back to the valley station of the chairlift.
In the bikepark Špičák it is going to be busy on Saturday 4 June. The biker´s season starts and you can look forward to a plenty of improvements. What is probably not surprising, are perfectly shaped tracks. What cannot be ignored by anybody is a brand new track called Lucky Bastard. It is a follow up of the drop over the little Cottage, which was built in the upper part of the bikepark last year. This new section, where there are lots of jumps, drops, berms and wallride, is approximately 1 kilometre long and it offers a lot of fun.
Before the beginning of the season we have worked on the tracks a lot. Apart from cleaning and adjusting the tracks, there have been built some new things on the connecting part of the track Virgin Forest with the name Lucky Bastard. A few new hurdles have been prepared in the upper part of the bikepark. This part will probably be suitable for experienced bikers who should really enjoy it. Next weekend you can try the improvements on Saturday 4 June at Bikepark Opening.
The summer season in Špičák is going to be enriched by a lot of events this year. Because Špičák is a sport centre, sport events should dominate. Nevertheless, we will not forget about culture and education, too. Apart from the traditional events, for example Bikepark opening (June 4) or iXS European Downhill Cup (1 – 3 July,) which is going to return to Špičák for the seventh time, we would like to introduce some innovations such as the Day with the National Park of Šumava.
The winter operation was stopped on Easter Monday 28 March. The summer operation of the chairlift and the bikepark starts on Saturday 4 June. On this day, we are going to organize an event including a live concert again - Bikepark opening. The later start of the summer season is determined by the decision of the offices for protection of nature.
Since September 13 are both the bikepark and the chairlift in operation only at the weekend. The weekend‘ s operation lasts until October 25. After that the summer operation will be stopped. The same opening hours are valid for the bike rental and the bike service.
We have prepared four special stages for this year’s Giant Enduro Race Špičák. Two of them are absolutely new and we have also changed more than a half of two other stages. Like in the previous races we are trying to offer a most diversiform and funniest race. Although we use the possibilities of our great bikepark, it will not be a ‘park‘ enduro. The track Struggle will be touched just by the final special stage of Race category.
The new parking place, which has been expected for a long time, has been finally finished. The visitors of Ski&bike Špičák can use it free of charge in the mode of early usage. The construction of the parking place, whose capacity is 230 cars, is supported by Pilsen Region with a sum of money 5 million CZK. The total investment is 17 million CZK. In summer you can use an access road from the parking place to the resort. In winter the road changes into a piste, which is 200 metres long. You can use a button lift to get back to the parking place. There is also planned a cash desk in winter so that you can buy the skipass.
